The Classic Chess Set - Small

Introducing The Classic Chess Set - a beautifully crafted solid wood (no veneers!) chess board made from Black Walnut and White Oak wood, accompanied by a full set of weighted modern, geometric chess pieces. The Classic Chess Board is 12" wide x 12" long x 1" tall with each square measuring 1"x1". The board is finished with several coats of Danish oil and top-coated with 2 coats of paste wax, buffed into the surface to create a buttery smooth playing surface.

Nearly all chess boards these days are made from a cheap MDF or plywood core and are then wrapped with a very thin wood veneer. This is done to keep cost low and reduce the impact of seasonal wood movement. Problem is, they look cheap and the veneer lacks durability.

Our boards have both the natural beauty and durability of solid wood. Separately, we significantly reduce the impact of seasonal wood movement by adhering the playing surface to the frame with a flexible adhesive, allowing it to expand and contract naturally with the seasons without putting pressure on the frame itself. This also gives the added esthetic of the playing surface "hovering" over the frame.
